Book Review by Madhulika Chopra

Freakonomics is nothing in regards to the economy of the world, rather it's an answer to the question of how world actually works. The author's interest of solving everyday life riddles landed him with this book with his investigations. He used economic tools to reveal the hidden side of different social issues around the world. As quoted in the book itself economists have a curious habit of affixing numbers to complicated transactions. The book, with help of some statistical data, focuses on issues like how a legalized abortion caused a sudden drop in crime rate in America, how appearance matters more than your skills, how incentive plays an important role in human behaviour and how genetics demonstrate much influence on child's development than parenting nurturing.

The Author has compared a racist organisation Ku Klux Klan who inspired fear in black community with real estate agents in terms of communication. How they both used code words in their profession to keep an assymetric information and influence people to lead the community depicting that every person wants to be successful at the end may it be a drug dealer, a clan or a professional.

Author also challenged the conventional wisdom of experts with which i totally agree. It can be often wrong. Overall it was an interesting read with some interesting quotes generating the curiosity to know more at every chapter. However the amount of statistical data in the book can bore you.
